Slate is noncombustible for Class A fire-rated assemblies, resists UV and freeze–thaw cycling, dampens sound, and withstands high winds when installed to specification—yielding a low total cost of ownership over decades.

S-1 slate, copper/stainless systems, and code compliance
Every project begins with structural and specification review. Slate adds roughly 8–12 psf dead load; we verify decking and framing capacity and recommend solid wood boards or exterior-grade plywood. Minimum recommended slope is 4:12. Courses are set with proper headlap (typically 3 inches; increased on lower slopes), secured with copper or stainless slating nails, and integrated with self-adhered ice/water protection at eaves, valleys, and penetrations over a high-temperature underlayment. Flashings and valleys are fabricated from 16–20 oz copper or 24–26 ga stainless for long-term corrosion resistance.
Craftsmanship governs performance: precise coursing, staggered joints, ventilated ridge solutions when required by assembly, and watertight terminations at walls, parapets, and dormers. We engineer details for mechanical curbs, skylights, and PV attachments; incorporate snow retention where appropriate; and provide dedicated walk pads for service access. Comprehensive safety planning, lift/crane logistics, and quality control inspections ensure a clean, code-compliant installation with predictable timelines.
